>>  Background

Health-care professionals have been using stethoscopes to listen to the sounds emanating from within the bodies of humans and animals for well over a century. Early devices, which consisted of a horn to collect and amplify sound waves, and a tube to convey these sounds to the operators ears, have changed little since their introduction.

In a second option the output from the Ultrastethoscope connected to a Picoscope digitiser and PC with Pico software provides a means to collect data and compare material from serial examinations.

Conventional Stethoscopes normally require skin contact, but have the advantage of being inexpensive and providing a ‘ badge of office ‘. They offer no electronic gain and normally have no recording means.

The Ultrastethoscope offers to provide a way for some doctors to over come the handicap of deafness.
The Ultrastethoscope

Through the use of advanced technology this device offers improved sensitivity and excellent sound quality.

It offers the chance to examine sounds from bodies without the need to remove clothing. The heart beat of seals have been recorded despite the presence of intact fur and a thick layer of fat. Anyone who prefers an examination without the need to undress can be accomodated.

The device may have many domestic applications and we will appreciate feedback from users on new applications. Suggested uses Include infestations in walls [ rodents, wasps ] And sounds caused by leaking or vibrating pipes.
