3 Channel Wireless Detector Program - Bob Baileys 'Basic
1' Anyone that knows Bob Baileys 'Basic 1'
program, will also know all about the different
sounds it gives as well, this is the main
reason I chose this program. For those that do not know about this
program and the XLT, then it can be compared
with the Explorer I & II, it has the
sounds of a 'Clanger' (childrens program)
in serious pain, if you don't know what
a 'Clanger' is, ask mum and dad..... Anyway, it was a fine sunny day and I
walked down to the furthest away field,
didn't want to be disturbed, and plugged
the Wireless Transmitter into the XLT; this
must be done without any box cover on, as
the brass eyelet prevents the transmitter
unit from being fully inserted . Checked that the Headphones Volume control
was down low, then switched the Transmitter
on, then the Headphones. Tuning them into
the Transmitter was extremely simple to
do, and I am pleased to say that there was
NO background hisses, hums or crackles.
This was especially good, as I was underneath
Electric Pylon Cables which go the whole
length of this field. The only thing that
was effected by these, was the XLT, there
was no interference to the Wireless Units. Switched the XLT on, and in the time it
took the Program to sound the usual start
up Ding Dong, I had the Volume set at a
good level. The first thing I noticed was a difference
in the overall sound, it appeared to be
slightly muffled, so was nicely surprised
when I tested it over a coin I bought with
me, and the Good, Solid Beep sounded out,
next a piece of Iron, very good Phut! noise
which seemed to be filtered, which was very
pleasant. So far, it appeared that this
Wireless setup was going to be very good. Set off detecting, and straight away I
noticed the difference, all those usual
blips,phuts,whistles and general 'clanger'
noises were being muffled, which was very
nice indeed, then suddenly a resounding
Solid BLEEP!, can't be mistaken, anybody
with an XLT will know what I am talking
about, Switched to Pinpoint, and found this
sound was also clear & solid, got
the location and recovered a very good conditioned
1920 George Silver 3d, from around
4 inches.........a little further along
and again the unmistakeable solid BLEEP!,
this time a new 5p, only about 1" down........next
item was Bronze, again the Clear Solid Bleep!,
this time around 6" deep, as yet this
find has not been fully identified, but
suggestions are leaning towards a Griffin's
Head, possible the end of a knife handle,
I will let you know what it turns out to
be. I continued to detect for the rest of
the morning and found the usual suspects,
buttons, shotgun cartridges, lumps of lead
and the odd rusty nail...lol..Altogether
a good days detecting, and a good test for
this Wireless System, which passed with
flying colours. I found the Wireless Headphones, to be
Comfortable, Light and easy to operate,
and they did their job brilliantly. The Transmitter unit is a nice size and
has no weight to it at all, plugged into
the XLT, I didn't even know it was there.
A few of things I liked with this unit
was the Off/On switch, a good easily operated
toggle type, as is the Channel Selector
switch, the Red LCD Power Light, and the
fact that it is an easy to plug in Rechargeable
Unit. Overall Transmitter Design = 10/10 Overall Headphone Design = 9/10 Overall Ease of Use = 10/10 Overall Performance = 10/10 I would recommend this Wireless System
to anybody. It is such a relief not having
my ears yanked off everytime I have to put
the detector down to dig for something,
the freedom is something else, I could not
go back to wired headphones again. Many thanks for all the help and support. Best Regards
Cliff
PS. Looking forward to the information on
the other units?
