>> Angiogenesis
For a cancer to grow it must have an adequate supply of oxygen and nutrients. While diffusion can fulfil this requirement for small cancers (1 to 2 millimetres), in order to grow beyond this size, they must establish a network of links to the body's circulation system. This blood vessel formation process is known as angiogenesis.
>> Clinical Trial
Once a new drug or treatment has been shown to be effective on laboratory animals, the next major step in making it available to the general public is usually to test it on patients. These human-based studies, which are intended to answer a series of specific medical questions, are known as clinical trials. |
